Church Spire Restoration update
As of Tuesday 16th January, when a site meeting was held with the main contractors Pinnacle, I am happy to submit my final report on the spire project.
The spire part or the ‘pointy bit’ is now complete:
The Tower or square bit is 99% finished – there is half a day’s work cleaning and pointing once the scaffolding is removed. Final removal expected by 19/01/2024.
All works are complete and meet the required specification as laid down in the scope of works, with the addition of 6 variations for work identified. The work and completion date was delayed initially by the cold weather and the inability to use lime mortar, which was then followed by the Christmas break delay.
The Clock refurbishment:
Painting and gilding is complete with the time set at 12:00 and will be started within the next few days once training is given.
Due to the Variations and Bat surveys, we finally had an overspend on the whole spire project of £4,005.57 on a project value of £201,000 which equates to 2.0014%. There is currently a request into the NHLF for re-allocation of the contingency to balance the account.
Next Major Milestones:
- Start Clock
- Completion Certificate from Architect
- Advise Southwell and close the Faculty 2021-064527
- Pay final bill to Pinnacle.
- Once roof is done remove from at risk register.
