Update on Restoration of the Spire
The next big visible change will be the installation of a special hoist for transporting new block work up the spire. The weathervane was due to be removed for refurbishing but when this was attempted, what was believed to be a 2 metre shaft is over 5 metres long and so it cannot be removed without extensive further works and removal of a large section of the spire. Therefore it was decided instead to give the weathervane an in-situ clean, rub down, refurbish and polish.
Next Major Milestones:
- Raking out of mortar – inside to start with
- Weathervane to be renovated and polished
- Re-pointing and installation of blockwork
- Agree start date for clock refurbishment
- Pay another instalment of the bill.
